The Spokane Nordic Ski Association is committed to hosting excellent ski events such as the Spokane Nordic Challenge Loppet. However, due to the nature of an outdoor winter sporting event, it is possible that extreme cold or lack of snow could compromise the event. In such instances, Spokane Nordic's first commitment is to modify the event and retain the spirit of winter fun and a challenging athletic endeavor. This may entail actions such as modifying the course.
Cancellation of the event will only occur in the most extreme cases, such as closure of the Mt. Spokane Cross-Country Ski Park by State Parks. Any decision to cancel will be made by the race organizers in consultation with State Parks staff and approved by the Spokane Nordic Ski Association's board of directors.
The Challenge Loppet is a volunteer-run event, planned and operated by men and women from our community who willingly give of their time and talents. Planning and hosting the event involves significant up-front expenses and time commitment. Spokane Nordic is a non-profit organization that is operated on a break-even basis. It has have no cancellation insurance policy, and the does not borrow money.
As such, in the rare case that the Challenge Loppet is canceled, the circumstances will be carefully reviewed by the Spokane Nordic board of directors. The Board will determine the extent, if any, of financial relief to registrants, taking into consideration the funds that have been expended or committed to. They will also determine the feasibility of moving the event to another date or location; but due to the logistics and costs involved, such a move is unlikely. Spokane Nordic makes no promise of refunded registration costs in whole or in part, and no promise of moving the event to another date or location.
Spokane Nordic is committed to creating, developing and delivering programs to foster Nordic skiing
within the greater Spokane Community through efforts of organization, advocacy, and communication.
Spokane Nordic Ski Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
