Race Coach - 2021/22 Season

Position Summary

The Spokane Nordic Ski Association (SNSA) seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and knowledgeable individual as Race Team Head Coach for the Winter 2021-2022 race season.  The Head Coach will lead the Race Team through fall dryland training, winter training sessions, and race weekends throughout the Pacific Northwest. The Head Coach will be responsible for scheduling training and ski sessions, coaching these sessions, coordinating with the Race Team Assistant Coach to staff all sessions. Anticipated average of 10-20 hours per week, depending on season.

The ideal candidate has college/elite racing experience and/or biathlon experience, and 3+ years coaching experience. The head coach will work with the Spokane Nordic board, parents and volunteers (including youth coaches) to recruit, retain and provide a positive racing experience to local athletes. Job duties and qualifications should include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead operations of the Race Team including practice planning, budgeting, team communication, and race support.

  • Develop weekly/yearly training plans for athletes.

  • Coordinate and lead one summer ski camp (open to all PNW athletes).

  • Assist Race Director with one local USSA sanctioned event.

  • Work with the Transition Team Coach to recruit and retain SNSA Nordic athletes.

  • Travel with athletes to approx. five regional races and Nationals.

  • Apply outstanding wax knowledge.

  • Coordinate operation and maintenance of the team-owned van.

  • Complete all Safe-sport required courses.

 

Term: Initial term of September 1, 2021 to April 1, 2022, with option to start in summer of 2021 to oversee a dryland training camp.

 

Payment: Anticipated at $20,000 as independent contractor for initial term.

The Spokane Nordic Ski Association (SNSA) is a community nordic program and race team based at Mt. Spokane, Washington which involves children, families and teenage racers as part of the USSA Pacific Northwest Ski Association. With up to 20 young skiers participating per season, the SNSA Race Team is focused on guiding skiers in the 12-18 year old range to racing success in Pacific Northwest Ski Association and National races, fostering appreciation and enjoyment of nordic skiing in a supportive community while providing the tools, knowledge and experience for competitive success.
