Nordic Kids Family Information

Hello Everyone and welcome to Nordic Kids!

Please review the rosters and let me know if anyone has any questions or concerns. (email info@spokanenordic.org or text 509-992-6203)

It’s our vision and hope that your skier enjoys their time on the mountain and develops a love for Nordic skiing.

Here’s an outline for day-of logistics.  I apologize that it’s a little long, but I do request that you read the complete email.

Class Start:

1. Morning class starts at 9:30 am, afternoon class starts at 1:30 pm.

2. Please be ready to ski at your start time.

3. All classes will meet above the lodge(between Brian’s and Valley View), we’ll have flags out, so it should be easy to spot.

Parents on Snow:

1. For the younger skiers, we do encourage you to either ski with the group or periodically check in on your skier.  You can ask your coach to provide you with a general route for the day’s activities.

2. We do acknowledge that for some students, it’s actually better if the parent does not participate/tag along and we’re happy to work with the parent on whatever works best for their child.

Food and Drink:

1. Skiers are strongly encouraged to bring water and snacks.

2. Food and drink cannot be shared.  This means that coaches will not be able to provide water for skiers.

Clothing:

1. Please dress appropriately for the weather.  It helps if skiers have layers that they can easily unzip or take off if they get hot.

2. To help plan your ski, click on this link to view the webcam.

3. For a weather update, click here.

Weather Cancellations

1. There are times when the weather requires us to cancel.

2. Decision deadline for weather cancellation is 2 hours prior to class start.

3. If a decision to cancel is made, I’ll will notify everyone via text

We refund for canceled classes.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, and THANK YOU!

Lodge Helpers
LODGE HELPER INFO

Thank you for volunteering to help in the lodge with snacks, drinks, and cleanup!

PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH Any dates that you will NOT be on the mountain. info@spokanenordic.org

Unless anyone REALLY wants to be the designated lodge helper EVERY week, I will schedule different family members to be the helpers for each weekend and share the date assignments with you before this weekend.

Lodge Helper Instructions:

1. Fill the large hot water tank using the sink in the ski patrol room. (Water must be filled before the kids go out so it is hot enough when lessons end)

2. Set up the tables in the back corner, and put down plastic tablecloths.

3. Prepare cups for hot cocoa.  Place 3ish scoops of hot cocoa into each cup, then fill with hot water and hand out to the kids as they arrive back at the lodge.

3. Using the provided nitrile gloves, open the Oreos and distribute 2 cookies per child, placed into the provided cupcake papers.

4. Clean up once kids have left and refill the water tank for afternoon lessons.  If you're in an afternoon class, please unplug and empty the hot water in the ski patrol room sink.  Place the empty hot water tank back on the back table, unplugged.

Coach Info
COACHING INFO

If you'd like to brush up on some training resources before this weekend you can find some here.

Here are the rosters again as a reminder to please send an email to your group if you haven't already. Just a quick hello, an intro about yourself and what you'd like to focus on this season.

Lead coaches - please identify your backup coach. You can find the full list of people who have volunteered to coach in the "NK Coaches & Volunteers" tab of the rosters spreadsheet shared above.

This year - you will also be responsible for maintaining a head count of your skiers, and ensuring that each of them has made it off of the mountain when you are done teaching. We will have a dry-erase version of the roster for each coach to check off at the conclusion of lessons.
